Sacramental Preparation for Youth

First Reconciliation & Communion

Children in Grade 2 and up may be prepared for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. There will be 3 aspects to their preparation.

  • Children will regularly participate in the Faith Formation classes that they are already attending.
  • Children/parents will go through a First Reconciliation and First Communion textbook at home together. The textbooks will be handed out in December.
  • Children/parents will participate in 3 family gatherings at HMC, which will include skits, songs, learning stations, prayer, family discussion time, and more!

Requirements:

  1. At least one year of formal Faith Formation prior to this year. (If you have questions, please contact Becky.)
  2. A copy of your child's baptismal certificate turned in or emailed to the HMC Faith Formation Office if your child was not baptized within Pastorate 24.

Older children who have not yet received the sacraments of Reconciliation or Eucharist are invited to do so, using approved age-appropriate materials that they study at home under the supervision of their parents or another Catholic family member or guardian. Please make your request to the Faith Formation department.

Confirmation

The sacrament of Confirmation is not connected to a specific grade level. Instead, Confirmation preparation is offered to candidates who have a desire to be confirmed and an intent to continue on their Catholic faith journey after Confirmation.

Confirmation Candidates:

  • Embrace their baptismal call and experience deeper initiation into a welcoming Church community
  • Grow in knowledge of the person, mission, and message of Jesus Christ
  • Understand the nature of the Church and appreciate the role of the sacraments in the Church's life and their own lives
  • Recognize the activity of the Holy Spirit in their lives and in the life of the Church
  • Understand the rite of Confirmation and prepare to celebrate it in a meaningful way

Confirmation Preparation will involve 4 sessions that will be held on Sundays throughout the year. These sessions will only focus on the sacrament of Confirmation and parents will be required to attend a few of them. Our Confirmation prep sessions will be held on different nights than our HOPE nights, which is our monthly Faith Formation program for high school teens, so that teens can participate in both events. Two sessions will be held at HMC in Oregon and two at St. Ann in Stoughton.

We will offer Confirmation every year for high school students and adults, so they can choose to prepare/receive the sacrament whenever they feel called to celebrate this sacrament.
