Sacraments

Baptism:

  • Baptisms of infants and children under seven are celebrated typically any Sunday after 8:00 am or 10:15 am Masses. New parents are asked to participate in a baptismal preparation session to understand more fully the signs and symbols of baptism as well as the meaning of Christian initiation. Please contact Becky Philips to schedule participation in Baptism Preparation. 

  • Adults seeking to be baptized into the Catholic faith engage in a process called the Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults or RCIA. The length of this process is dependent upon the needs and faith development of the individual. A group of people, the RCIA team, helps the entire parish to be supportive of the people in the RCIA process. Click on Initiation into the Catholic Church tab (above) for more information.

Eucharist:

  • Weekend Masses are Saturday at 5:00 pm and Sunday at 8:00 and 10:15 am.
  • Tuesdays Mass is at 5:30 pm.
  • Wednesday through Friday Mass is at 8:00 am.
  • Weekday Masses are held in the church.
  • Liturgy of the Hours is prayed at 8:00 on Monday mornings, in the chapel.   

 

First Reconciliation/First Communion:

0_First_Communion_4c.jpg Children in Grade 2 and up may be prepared for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. Second graders who have completed a full year of documented Faith Formation classes are invited to begin preparation for these sacraments. Beginning with a parent/student meeting before starting preparation for each sacrament, parents are provided with a textbook, parent guide, and online extras that help them to teach their young ones at home. When children are deemed ready, they may celebrate the Sacraments of Reconciliation and then Eucharist for the first time during a group celebration.

Older children who have not yet received the sacraments of Reconciliation or Eucharist are invited to do so, using approved age-appropriate materials that they study at home under the supervision of their parents or another Catholic family member or guardian. Please make your request to the Faith Formation department. Once demonstrated study and readiness for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (aka "Penance" or "Confession") is confirmed, students receive that sacrament before continuing to study and then receive First Eucharist (aka "Communion"). Parents and grandparents are asked to respect the time and preparation needed in order to receive these two important sacraments. Neither are to be rushed. It typically takes an entire school year to prepare for both; and, per diocesan guidelines, students should have at least one solid year of current Faith Formation under their belts before entering their preparation year for the sacraments.

 

Reconciliation/Confession:

Reconciliation_20i1_4c.jpg Private Reconciliation is available on Saturdays at 11:00 am in the Reconciliation Room located in the south entryway of the church. Communal celebrations are scheduled during Advent and Lent. Children are prepared for Reconciliation in second grade or older.

 

Confirmation:

Confirmation_20i1_4c.jpg The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated each spring, as one of the diocese's "Regional Confirmation" celebrations involving HMC and 1-3 additional parishes. The invitation to prepare for this sacrament is extended to the parish's high school students. Preparation includes group and individual learning, worship, retreat, and service experiences. Parents and students work together to ensure adequate preparation. Most details can be found on the Confirmation Preparation page, under the teen Faith Formation program.

 

Marriage: 

Marriages are scheduled with the pastor at least 6 months in advance. The Diocese Marriage Preparation Guidelines are followed and completed prior to the marriage. This includes meetings with the pastor, a weekend or two one-day sessions with other couples preparing for marriage, and meetings with a trained couple to take the FOCCUS inventory.

 

Anointing of the Sick:

Anointing_20i3_4c.jpg Contact the Pastor by phone, email, or following a weekday or weekend Mass to make arrangements for the celebration of the anointing of the sick. Every Spring there is a communal Anointing of the Sick Mass followed by a luncheon in Consolation Hall.
